Blátha Bána – White Blossoms

Blátha Bána – White Blossoms

Those of you who have listened patiently to us talking endlessly about our Early Years production will be delighted that it is finally in pre-production. Blátha Bána – White Blossoms will play to eighteen months to three year olds in our theatre from May 16th to May 28th.  The set is a complete installation by the award-winning Deirdre Dwyer and features  – among many wonders – a stream running through the performance area.  Lighting by Eoin Winning and a specially composed musical score complete the atmosphere of what we feel will be a beautiful piece. We’d love our TYAI colleagues to see it but space is limited so call in advance.

Meanwhile our BEAG Early Years Arts Team are busy working their magic in childcare settings in Cork City and County.  In this phase of the project we have added workshops for BEAG childcare workers and Infant Mental Health professionals.   Two of the artists also have individual residencies: one a story-gathering from children and another on capturing and making music with twelve to eighteen month olds in a childcare setting in the Gaeltacht.

Our Artistic Director will be directing the development of a new play by Finnegan Kruckmeyer at NYU’s ‘New Plays for Young Audiences’ in New York in June. Zachary Briddling who was only Middling will have public sharings of the piece on Saturday and Sunday, 9th and 10th of June so anyone who finds themselves in New York at the time will be welcome! Otherwise follow us on Facebook.

Another Australian writer is next up for the company’s Autumn production.  Where in the World is Frank Sparrow? is a darkly gothic play for teenagers written by one of Australia’s best-known playwrights for young audiences.  This play was also developed at ‘New Plays for young Audiences’ in New York in 2010.  Just waiting for the production draft to come in!!!
